Resist Newsletter: Issue 1 Feb 2025

      HR Dems for Political Action

This newsletter will be sent out periodically to communicate political action events in Collin County and resources for influencing key political figures.

Here are some ways you can join like-minded people and take action in Collin County:

Get Ready to Resist!

The two articles that follow will get you started on how to effectively reach out to our senators and representatives.  The first article focuses on Senator Cornyn.  The second will give you a resource that provides verbiage, links, and templates to use when contacting political figures.

Concentrating on Cornyn

Dem club member Vickie Echols provided this article.  Follow the simple steps to get started.

INDIVISIBLE TEAM: What to do about Republican complicity

"Most Republicans in the Senate think they did the politically smart thing right now. Most know RFK Jr. is a public health menace, Vought is a crook, and Gabbard is a national security nightmare, but they bent the knee to Trump because it saves them from being attacked by the president and possibly being subjected to an Elon Musk-funded primary. And they’re hoping that voters will quickly forget about their complicity in the face of the million daily outrages coming out of the White House.

Our advice to you: Let them know you’re not going to forget it. Senators count on getting a lot of calls before a big vote. They’re surprised when a bad vote is brought up by constituents again and again. It makes them think twice about what’s "good politics" the next time around.

So call them today and tell them you are disappointed/livid about their votes.

Circle a date on the calendar for next week and the week after. Call them again to say you remain disappointed/livid. If RFK Jr., Vought, or Gabbard find themselves enmeshed in some scandal, bring that up. Make these votes haunt them. Here are the numbers for your Republican senators. This doesn’t need to be fancy. Just tell them you’re angry about their vote and will hold them accountable for the damage these nominees cause."

Sen. Cornyn - (202) 224-2934

If you want to use a template for the call - use some or all. If you get a message that the message box is full, just call back and keep calling as much as time allows.

TEMPLATE:

“Hello, my name is [Your Name], and I am a constituent from Fairview, Texas. I am calling to express my deep disappointment over Senator Cornyn’s vote to confirm RFK Jr., Russell Vought, and Tulsi Gabbard to key positions.

It is alarming that Senator Cornyn supported these nominees despite clear evidence that they are unfit for their roles.”

  • “RFK Jr. has a long record of spreading public health misinformation.”

  • “Russell Vought has a troubling history of financial and ethical misconduct.”

  • “Tulsi Gabbard’s foreign policy positions pose serious national security risks.”

Republicans frequently claim to value merit in leadership, yet these confirmations were based on political loyalty, not qualifications.

Senator Cornyn’s term is up in 2026, and Texans will remember this vote when it’s time to elect someone who puts the country before the party.

I will not forget this, and I will continue to hold him accountable.

Please relay my concerns to the Senator. I will be calling again to follow up. Thank you for your time.

🔥 Tip: Call again next week and the week after to reinforce your message.

Another Resource for Contacting Political Figures

Dem Club member June Ricks has provided information on easy ways to communicate your opinions to political figures.  To access this resource, go to JessicaCraven101 on Facebook.  Or, if you’d prefer, download the Substack app, create a free account, and search for Jessica Craven.

From June: “The one which makes it super simple is Jessica Craven who writes Chop Wood, Carry Water daily.  She provides form letters that can be copied and sent or just summarized by email or by phone.  She also provides links to your appropriate Representatives/Senators.  For those who want a simple and fast way to take action, I would recommend her post.”
